Another Inspiring Friday of Business Networking

PRO Networking • September 19, 2025

Highlights from our latest PROs meeting with Paul Self, Tina Jacobs, and Jonathan Simkins on business celebration, tax changes, and pest prevention.

Our PROs Networking group gathered for another inspiring Friday morning meeting, filled with practical business insights and community spirit. We welcomed valuable tips on financial planning, tax strategies, and even pest control—all designed to help local businesses grow and connect. Here’s what we learned from our three engaging speakers.

Paul Self – Business Educational Moment

Paul H Self - Financial Advisor

Paul focused on the importance of celebration in business. He reminded us that when we only dwell on problems, we create blame and division. Instead, celebrating wins—big or small—builds unity and drives momentum.

 -  Celebration and wins bring people together

 -  It’s easy to let negativity take the lead, which causes blame and divisions

 -  Celebration does the opposite, helping us connect and stay motivated

 -  PROs is a perfect example: a diverse group that unites to connect people and clients

 -  Don’t be late, and remember to celebrate every victory

Paul’s message was simple but powerful: stay positive, recognize accomplishments, and make celebration part of your business culture.

Tina Jacobs – Jacobs Tax Pros Inc

Tax & Accounting

Tina broke down the big beautiful bill and your taxes, using the example of a major renovation to show how changes can work for or against you. Key takeaways included:

 -  The QBI deduction now primarily benefits S-corps with up to 20% deducted before tax

 -  Qualified tips are not taxed

 -  Overtime is deductible

 -  SALT deduction limit raised to $40k

 -  Bigger deductions and advantages for Social Security

 -  Expanded opportunities for deductions and credits

 -  Cuts coming to Medicare and Medicaid

 -  IRS enforcement rolled back

Her insights gave everyone a clearer view of upcoming tax changes and how to prepare.

Jonathan brought some excitement, literally, by passing around live cockroaches to illustrate his talk on pest control. Since starting Insect IQ in 1996 with one $25 lawn customer, he’s grown into an expert entomologist servicing 75 pest issues a day. He explained the differences among species such as:

 -  Smoky brown

 -  Australian

 -  Palmetto bug

 -  American cockroach

 -  Asian (flying) cockroach

 -  German

 -  Brown banded

His prevention tips were clear and practical: keep food off floors and counters, avoid standing water, and seal exterior holes. And of course, call Insect IQ if you see bugs before a small issue becomes a big problem.
